Man strangled longtime boyfriend after argument over video game

An argument over a video game turned deadly Jan. 6, ending with the slaying of a Pontiac man, authorities said.

The victim, Rory Teasley, 28, was choked to death, allegedly by his boyfriend of 10 years, Docquen Jovo Watkins, 31, who is charged with second-degree homicide, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The two had been playing the game “Overwatch” when the argument began, the sheriff’s office said. Watkins called 911 shortly before midnight Jan. 6 to report he and his boyfriend had gotten into a fight and that his boyfriend was “sleeping” on the couch, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies who responded to the residence, an apartment in the 10 block of Carter, found Teasley unconscious and not breathing, the sheriff’s office said. Teasley was taken to an area hospital but couldn’t be revived and was pronounced dead.

“We see far too often across the country these days when people resort to violence over trivial  and insignificant disagreements,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated in a news release. “There is never a reason  where violence is acceptable over a disagreement. Those that do so will be held accountable.”
